The Glencore  community grant comes on top of last week’s fantastic news, when Federal Member for Hunter Joel Fitzgibbon announced the centre had been successful in obtaining a $20 000 grant under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.

The much needed funding will go toward expanding and renovating the centre’s shed - a long-term project they have struggled to get support for.

Along with the grants, the Men’s Shed and Glencore Ravensworth in collaboration with Daracon will be working together to complete the labour work involved with “TheOpenDoor@SNC” project.

Upon completion the SNC shed will feature a laundry, disabled bathroom facilities, toilets, showers and a kitchen, all open to those in need.

Currently the Singleton community has no facilities like this on offer so this project will be vital in supporting families and community members who are unable to access safe and secure services.

SNC Coordinator Judy Mitchell says the centre has been fundraising to get this project up and running for the past three years and in total have raised $40,000.

“With our own fundraising and the help of the grants, the Singleton Neighbourhood Centre is now one step closer to providing these vital services.”

With the current work said to be completed within the coming months, the Singleton Neighbourhood Centre is aiming to have the services fully opened to public by 2018.

The Rotary Club of Singleton and the Soft Cogs Inc. are also getting on board, with all proceeds from the Lake St Clair Charity Bike Ride happening on August 20 going toward the Neighbourhood Centre’s project.
