Having grown up in Sydney, Mr Shields began as a real estate agent and as he learnt more about the job, he realised that what he was truly passionate about was the people. And so he turned his sights to teaching.
From there he taught business in the Northern Beaches before making a major lifestyle change and taking on a management position in a remote indigenous community in Western Australia. For Tim, his passion to implement change and stimulate growth saw him excel in each role he pursued. And if his resume wasn’t impressive enough, add his teaching experience in London to the mix.
His most recent role was Head of Senior School at St. Philip’s Christian College, Cessnock, and now he will be the Principal of the Christian College in Singleton.
“I love regional communities like this and I am eager to take on this professional challenge,” Mr Shields says.
“The staff at the Christian College are so committed and really challenge themselves to improve the students learning so I am looking forward to working with them.”
For Mr Shields, education is as much about the heart as it is the mind and this is exactly the type of attitude he believes students need throughout their schooling.
“We have a unique opportunity at the Australian Christian College to work with students from the kindergarten prep program all the way through to Year 12, and this allows us to create strong relationships with each and every student.
“This means knowing each student’s learning behaviours and abilities which in turn allow us to better support them throughout their schooling years.”
Focussed on improving the learning within the school and embedding modern data driven teaching strategies, Mr Shields is no doubt an asset to the Singleton community and we congratulate him on his new role.
