Singleton Council and Muswellbrook Shire Council are making this easier to do by extending their chimney flue cleaning rebate offer to September 30, 2016 or until all rebates have been allocated.
Muswellbrook Shire Council Sustainability Coordinator Mark Scandrett says that the rebates have been very popular.
“We have been impressed with the amount of residents in both local government areas taking advantage of the rebates, with almost half of the rebates claimed to date,” he says.
Singleton local Justin Ross applied for his cleaning rebate in May.
“Claiming my chimney cleaning rebate couldn’t have been easier. I got the form from my cleaner. Filling out the form took less than 5 minutes and I received the cheque for $50 in the mail,” he says.
Singleton Council’s Director of Planning and Infrastructure Group Mark Ihlein says a clean chimney helps your wood heater to operate more efficiently and decreases the amount of smoke emitted, benefiting the quality of the air we all breathe during the winter months.
Both Councils are also offering a $1500 rebate if you would like to remove your wood heater and install a less smoky form of heating.
Information on the rebate programs and using your wood heater more efficiently are available on both Councils’ websites at www.singleton.nsw.gov.au/rebate or at www.muswellbrook.nsw.gov.au
