Bowlers help charity

PROVING you are never too old or too young to learn the art of lawn bowls, a group of mixed aged beginners hit the greens at Singleton Diggers to raise funds for the Singleton Cancer Appeal Committee.

The day was organised by the Singleton Retired Miners who each year select a local charity to support.

The day started with a few spins of the chocolate wheel and a sausage sandwich and then the attendees hit the greens.

Showing the group of non-bowlers how it’s done was well-known Singleton Bowling Club member Gordon Oliver.

Despite many bowls finding the gutter during the spider, the quality of play quickly improved with the youngest L-plater soon getting the better of many more experienced competitors.

Once the bowling was over everyone headed indoors for a  high tea and discussions on the ends that got away.

Singleton Cancer Appeal Committee president  Kay Sullivan said the day

was a wonderful event and the funds raised would benefit many in the community.
