With eight years’ experience as a youth worker, Reina’s resume was more than fitting for the role which has only just been created by the Department of Education.
As a student support officer, her job will be to not only increase the support for students, particularly through their challenging secondary years, but to enhance the resilience and safety of the young people as well.
Furthermore, Reina will represent the High School within the community, offering additional support to parents and liaising with partner primary schools and families to support effective transition into secondary school.
Reina first found her passion for helping others and working with youth after volunteering at Singleton High School through the Planet Youth Mentoring program. This experience led to similar roles, including a position at the Singleton Youth venue.
Over the 12 years that she has called Singleton home, Reina has made a huge impact on the community through her volunteering, mentoring and youth work.
The enthusiastic new employee will be facilitating programs for the students as a part of the High’s Wellbeing Team. An example is ‘Be your Best’, a program developed by Reina to enhance positive relationships for students with their peers, families and support networks.
This program has already proven popular, with teachers noting the positive impacts that can be seen among the students.
“I hope I can make more of a positive impact on the students now that I am positioned at the school,” Reina says.
“My role is to be a link for the community and to offer support networks for the students.”
Reina began working at Singleton High School last term and will no doubt be a wonderful asset to the Wellbeing team.
