President of the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association, Dr Cameron Collins congratulated Winx's owners, breeder John Camilleri, trainer Chris Waller and jockey Hugh Bowman on the historic win.
“Winx is living proof of Hunter-bred champions and why Australia's premier breeding industry in the Hunter should be protected," he said.
Winx's return to the track for the Group Two Apollo Stakes at Randwick was her first outing since her eight-length Cox Plate success in October 2016. This autumn racing season attention will also be focused on Winx becoming the first horse since another Hunter-bred legend, Kingston Town, to win three Cox Plates.
