The passionate butcher won second place with his sweet curry lamb sausage, a flavour that is award winning on a local and regional level. Now the recipe has been given national recognition, coming second out of over 3000 entries from across the country.
However Robert is no stranger to success having made it to nationals in 2010 and again in 2015, taking home bronze for his pork products.
His sausages were critiqued by four judges. Two of whom are industry professionals, one who assesses the technical aspects of the recipe and another who takes a more consumer-like approach.
When announcing the winners the judges said that out of all six categories, the lamb sausage class was the hardest to judge and the closest to place.
Robert was narrowly beaten by Joe Di Fulvio of Crimea Meats in Morley, Western Australia.
“It’s a huge achievement to make it to nationals and place second,” Robert says.
“We are very happy with the results.”
Of course, Robert is eager to secure a first place position and will hopefully be vying off the top title again in 2018.
But for now the local butcher is back to work at his Singleton business, Roberts Meats and will be happily selling his award winning sausages.
