While in the junior ranks they are hoping to attract more young players so they can field stand alone teams. Junior president, Andrew Thornberry, says our club would love to welcome new players to our game. “We have enthusiastic coaches ready to train any newcomers in AFL skills and fitness,” he says. “And we have already started training on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at 5pm.” He says new players can come along in all age groups from Auskick (5-8 yrs) right through to U17’s. The junior season actually commences on the Sunday after the senior comp gets underway, and officially the Auskick program will start on Thursday, March 30 at 5pm. Both the senior women’s and men’s teams are also back in training. Senior vice president, Joel Deacon, says they are training on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at Rose Point Park. “The women start at 5.30pm followed by the men at 6.30pm,” he says. Both will be involved in pre-season competitions - the men in Muswellbrook on March 11, and the ladies a gala day at Lake Macquaire, March 18. President, Nadene McBride, says they are getting good numbers to the women’s training sessions. “We are already looking stronger,” she says.
