The club’s first trial against Londonderry a fortnight ago gave captain-coach Jye Bayley a look at some troops in different positions for the first time.
Bayley will use this trial to formalise his squad for the Scanlon Shield in a fortnight’s time.
Training numbers have been building solidly in what has been an extremely hot yet physically intense pre-season for both senior and junior players.
The Under 18’s will get their first chance to work on combinations when they tackle their Manning Valley opponents.
They will have to do it without their key representative players in James Bradley and Tom Baker (Knights SG Ball) as well as Morgan Amidy, Hayden Burke and Lachlan Fry (Northern Tigers Academy) who will unavailable until a few weeks into competition proper.
The Ladies league-tag will also get their chance to shine in their first game of the pre-season. Some of the girls have been part of the inaugural 9’s tournament on Friday evenings while there are other new faces in the tag team looking forward to their first game.
The girls kick-off proceedings at Pirtek Park this Saturday from 1.00pm with 3 x 15 min periods, followed by Under 18’s at 2.00pm with 3 x 20 min periods and Open Grade at 3.00pm followed by 4 x 20min quarters of football.
Canteen and bar facilities will be in operation so come on down to Pirtek Park and get a taste of pre-season football as the Greyhounds build towards the competition start on April 1 and afterwards at the home of Singleton rugby league, the Clubhouse Hotel.
