“The Hunter Valley’s thoroughbred breeding excellence will again be on display tomorrow at Rosehill in a thrilling series of races including the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the Group 1 Longines Golden Slipper, the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes, the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas, the Group 1 Galaxy and the Provincial Championships Qualifier” Dr Cameron Collins, President of the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders said.

“The fact that the Golden Slipper will once again be contested by a full field of Hunter Valley sired horses reflects that Hunter Valley studs breed the best thoroughbred athletes in the world and why it should be protected.” Dr Collins said

Progeny of champion stallions from Arrowfield (Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain, Not A Single Doubt and Snitzel); Coolmore (Fastnet Rock and Pierro); Darley (Medaglia D’Oro, Street Cry and Exceed and Excel); Vinery (Husson); and Yarraman Park (Hinchinbrook and I Am Invincible) will showcase the Hunter’s prowess, speed and stamina and vie for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper prize money.

The Hunter’s golden girl, Winx, (daughter of Darley’s champion stallion Street Cry, raised and grazed at Coolmore, bred by John Camilleri) is aiming for her 16th consecutive win, in the George Ryder Stakes.

With a winning streak over the past two years Winx is making history with every race – already surpassing the consecutive win record of Australia’s iconic hero of the turf Phar Lap.

Hunterbreds will also represent 11 of the 12 runners in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (with current favourite Inference, son of So You Think raised at Coolmore) and 11 of the 14 runners in the Galaxy Group 1 race (with current favourite Russian Revolution, son of Arrowfield’s stallion Snitzel and raised at Vinery in close competition to English, daughter of Coolmore’s Encosta de Lago).

Rounding up an exciting day of racing, a bevy of Hunterbreds will also contest the 2017 Provincial Championships Qualifier, an initiative of Racing NSW and supported by the NSW Government in recognition of the importance of provincial breeding and racing.

“Tomorrow Hunterbreds will again showcase their prowess, speed, stamina and dominance on the race track. The Hunter Valley’s breeding industry is critically important to Australian racing, including the Sydney Autumn Carnival. We encourage everyone taking part in racing tomorrow to pause and reflect on the importance of the Hunter’s thoroughbred industry and why the NSW Government should act now to permanently protect it” Dr Collins said.
