Singleton Council are holding an Extraordinary Meeting on Monday night and the proposal to build a service station on a high hazard flood plain at the corner of Bridgman Road and New England Highway is on the agenda.

Despite an independent review of the original flood study advising against the progression of the proposal, Council staff are recommending it go ahead.
In the review written by Opus International Consultants it says the development is located within a floodway.
“Floodplain Risk Management Study adopted by Singleton Council indicates that the proposed development is located within high hazard floodways,” the review states.
“Therefore, based on the Floodplain Risk management Study, and Council’s adoption of the study, the proposed development (commercial building) is not suitable in its current location.”
This recommendation in favour of progressing the proposal appears to contradict Council’s floodplain risk management plan.
This clearly states “high hazard floodways are unsuitable for residential, commercial and industrial developments and hence, the planning documents will prevent such developments.”
The proposed site for the new development is owned by Peter and Di Crawford and Cardiff Holdings Pty Ltd.
The plans involve the demolition of the existing single story dwelling and the construction of the highway service centre at 1,3 and 5 Bridgman Road, Dunolly.
In addition to the service station, the proposal includes a takeaway food and drink premises and two ancillary shops.
The meeting will be held at 5.30pm on Monday night, and is open to the public.
