While the “firsts” knocked over Valley in the 2016-17 decider, Creeks’ lower graders maintained its unbeaten streak at the expense of Denman at Cook Park 3.
The favourites looked in deep trouble early, when Mitch Bourke (0), Cale Rainey (1), Tristan Pitcher (1) and Lachlan Charnock (5) were all sent packing with just 11 on the board.
But, Clint Harman (43) and Jarrod Campbell (35) answered the SOS call with an excellent 69-run partnership, which ended up being the match-winning stand.
A late cameo from Josh Whittington (11) saw Creeks manage a moderate 110.
Peter Mills was the pick of the bowlers, taking a phenomenal 3-5 off eight overs.
He was ably supported by Jacob McCormick (3-24) and S. Wilkins (2-5).
If the Denman players thought they were in the box seat, Daniel Tracey, Whittington and Harman had other ideas.
The trio terrorised the rival batting line-up, reducing the side to 7-27.
Hunter Ball (5), Craig Heuston (1), John Apps (4), Matt Danks (3), McCormick (3), Jack Mann (4) and Mills (1) all departed without troubling the scorer too much.
Jackson Ball (26 not out) and Mitch Coombes (15) offered some resistance, however Denman’s quest ended on 80.
Whittington picked up 3-8, Harman snared 3-20 and Tracey collected 2-17.
