SINGLETON’S Jessica Alexander, Trent Walker, Luke Drayton and Daniel Slade have managed to score third place in the Young Farmer’s Challenge state finals at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The young group competed exceptionally, only just missing the top title.
The Singleton locals went head to head with three other state final teams including Berry, Crookwell and the winning group from Goulburn.
The team managed to make a comeback after a 21 second handicap, proving they had the stamina to keep up with the others.
The state final involved a range of rural activities and challenges including putting out a controlled fire, safely packing and maneuvering their vehicles and quickly creating a working electric fence among other things.
Jessica, Trent, Luke and Daniel were extremely pleased to have placed third, however they are all eager to compete again next year with their eyes on gold in 2018.
The Young Farmer’s Challenge is a great initiative that showcases the breadth of technical skills and knowledge required in farming today and helps to educate youth on the agricultural industry.
