This iconic event is sponsored by The Land newspaper, and don’t be fooled the competition is fierce.
Each branch holds a separate contest at a time suitable to them, and Friday, March 10 was the big day in Singleton.
And from here, life member, Betty Irons, and president, Sarah Lukeman went on to secure wins at the next level – the Hunter River Group competition.
Publicity Officer, Pamela Huyton, says they are also pleased to announce two of their members have enjoyed success at the next level.
“Betty Irons placed first in the Hunter River Group competition held March 13 for her Boiled Pudding,” she says
“And Sarah Lukeman placed first for her Rhubarb and Ginger Jam.”
Ms Huyton says both will be entered at State Conference in May.
The results for the Singleton competition are as follows:
- Fruit Cake- 1st Deidre Girdler, 2nd Olga Geale, 3rd Betty Irons;
- Sultana Cake- 1st Judy Bates, 2nd Sarah Lukeman, 3rd Olga Geale;
- Butter Cake- Moist Coconut- 1st Deidre Girdler, 2nd Betty Irons, 3rd Olga Geale;
- Lemon Sour Cream- 1st Judy Bates, 2nd Deidre Girdler, 3rd Olga Geale;
- Rhubarb Cake- 1st Olga Geale, 2nd Judy Bates, 3rd Sarah Lukeman;
- Monte Carlos- 1st Bronwyn Dunston.
- Coffee Cake- 1st Betty Irons, 2nd Olga Geale, 3rd Judy Bates;
- Boiled Pudding- 1st Betty Irons, 2nd Judy Bates, 3rd Olga Geale.
- Rhubarb and Ginger Jam- 1st Sarah Lukeman;
