On Friday April 28, students, teachers, respected community members and servicemen and women gathered inside the Multi-Purpose Centre to pay their respects.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) led the assembly, which had a strong focus on recognition and appreciation.
Former SHS teacher, Mr Nigel Cox gave a heartfelt speech about the significance of the day.
“The relative peace we can enjoy today when we leave [school] of an afternoon came at a cost – the lives of people who served for us,” Nigel said.
“Even today, we need to acknowledge the people who serve in our defence force for the pursuit of peace and our security.”
Nigel, with the help of Singleton Men’s Shed representative, Richard Conley and Myne Signs’ Mr Greg Hall, unveiled the new memorial boards to be placed in the foyer of the School. Singleton Men’s Shed generously helped craft the boards, while Myne Signs did the lettering free of charge.
The SHS service followed the school’s wonderful attendance at the annual ANZAC Day parade, where students and teachers proudly marched through the streets of Singleton before laying wreaths upon the Burdekin Park cenotaph.
SHS is renowned for their wonderful ANZAC Day services and this year proved to be no different, with the staff and students honouring the ANZAC spirit.
