Below are some of the highlights for this year’s Singleton Festival.
Official Festival Launch and Guinness World Record Attempt
Singleton will be contesting the Guinness World Record in none other than crocheting. The record attempt will be a huge event for Singleton and is open to everyone of any or little crocheting skills on Sunday April 30.
The event will begin at 9am at the Civic Centre for those wanting a crash course in crochet and the Lions Club of Singleton will be serving up a barbecue breakfast.
The official launch of Singleton Festival will take place inside the Civic Centre at 11am and the record attempt will begin around 11:15am.
You can register by calling Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre on 6571 5888 or alternatively you can register on the day.
Bulga Beats Festival
Bulga Beats is a community event unifying festival experiences with practical learning through workshops in art, movement and theatre. The festival runs over two days, May 6 and 7, and will be held at Bulga Recreational Ground.
Saturday is the main event with markets, musical entertainment and a DJ shack running throughout the day and night. While Sunday will focus on workshops ranging from yoga to art. Tickets for the event range from $30 to $37 and are available at Eventbrite.
Meet the Growers
This event gives people the chance to start at the very beginning, seeing what it takes to make great wine and fresh produce. Throughout the Singleton Festival, local Growers will be at cellar doors, vineyards and olive groves to share their knowledge and stories. A full program of activities, workshops, walks and tastings can be found at www.brokefordwich.com.au
Artisan’s Open Day
The Singleton Festival is giving you the chance to witness a rare treat as traditional blacksmiths join forces to create some amazing monuments. On May 6, an Artisan’s open day will be held at 664 Elderslie Road, Elderslie from 10:30am and is free for all members of the public to attend.
Offering this exciting open day is Will Maguire, a multi-award winning contemporary Artist Blacksmith with more than 10 years’ experience. Based in the beautiful surrounds of the Hunter Valley, he is a one of very few contemporary blacksmiths in Australia utilising contemporary design and traditional skills learnt from masters overseas. Don’t miss an opportunity to see him at work!
Singleton Historical Museum
Be prepared to step back 200 years and catch a glimpse of colonial life in Singleton thanks to the Singleton Historical Museum. The museum is offering free entry over May 6 and 7 from 12pm to 4pm and is a great opportunity for both young and old to experience the past. Singleton Historical Museum is located in Burdekin Park and features displays dating back to the 1800s.
