Strategic plan to finally deliver Riverside Park on John Street

In adopting the Singleton Community Strategic Plan 2017-2021 Council has promised to finally deliver Riverside Park. The recreational space is to be situated on the vacant double lot between the Mid-city Motor Inn and the Parsons Brinkerhoff building on John Street. Plans for the park include two play towers and a central climbing tower to cater for children of all ages, as well as a kiosk and toilet facilities, cycleway and landscaping. It is part of the former Sutton Ford site and the initial plans for such a development to link the main street to the river surfaced back in December 2013. This was when Council exchanged contracts for the acquisition of 186, 184a and 189-195 John Street to ensure the objectives of the Town Centre Master Plan could be achieved. General-manager Jason Linnane says they are working through the final design and hope to start work in October. “Council is aware there is significant community interest in this project and has been working hard to develop a funding strategy to ensure it can be delivered to expectation. We are confident we are now in a position to test the market via the tender process so we can make decisions on how to move forward.”
