The aim of this forum is to inspire local support for a sustainable recovery at Cassilis while keeping in mind the same ideas can be applied right across our farming landscapes.
Enjoy a delicious dinner, tempting dessert treats and great company while learning about the many avenues to get involved in this locally driven Landcare partnership project.
Get inspired for your very own farm makeover from a great line-up of presenters including Uralla farmer-grazier, Tim Wright - a how-to practical guide to holistic farm management; Dr Manu Saunders - the integral role of wild pollinators in agricultural landscapes; and local farmers outlining Merriwa Landcare's project - great practical advice on getting started on tree planting preparation; free equipment hire of 3-tyne rippers and hand-planters; planting with Conservation Volunteers; and ordering free tubestock for planting in 2018.
The 2017 Merriwa Sir Ivan Bush Fire Appeal will have an information session during the evening for fire-affected land owners detailing their application process.
Merriwa Landcare Group's revegetation project has been funded through the Australian Government's National Landcare Programme through Hunter Local Land Services.
The plan is provide local native tubestock, planting preparation advice and equipment for re-planting projects on fire-affected properties. The local Landcare group is very keen to gain local support for their project. Cressfield stud near Scone has volunteered to grow trees from supplied seed for the Cassilis area.
Contact has been made with local Men's Shed organisations to construct nesting boxes for native mammals and birds displaced by the fire.Discussions are under way with Conservation Volunteers regarding planting assistance. Any support would be warmly welcomed.
