Our local primary school’s took part in an annual gala day at Cook Park where the Bryan Kirkland Cup and Debbie Carroll Shield were contested. This was the first year both events were played on the same day. The Cup is a mixed League competition whereas the Shield is a female League Tag contest. This year Singleton Heights Public School took out the Open comp overcoming King Street Public School. The team was undefeated on the day with most of their side currently playing for the Singleton Greyhounds. Ryan Jurkins was named man of the match in the final. In the U10’s division, Singleton Public School were also undefeated on their way to claiming the Cup. Considering they did not enter a team in this division last year, it was a great effort from the boys and their coaches – Mrs Black, Dylan Grant along with Mr Gilmore and Mr Davidson. While St Catherine’s Catholic College are now the proud holders of the Debbie Carroll Shield. They actually entered two teams in the tournament but it was their number two team who bought home the goods.
