According to a meteorologist Don White from Weatherwatch, it is about to get chilly.
“It is mid winter so you would expect to be cold,” he said.
“There is a quite a cool air mass over us at the moment. This will see the sky clear rapidly over the weekend. With the fine, clear weather comes colder temperatures and early morning frost.”
In Maitland, temperatures will drop as low as 3 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures at a maximum of 17.
It is a much cooler prediction for the Upper Hunter, with plenty of early morning frost. Residents in Singleton and Scone can expect the mercury to drop to zero or one below.
“There could be a light dusting of snow at Barrington Tops early morning Monday,” Mr White said.
“There is not enough moisture around for anything more. Even at the Snowy Mountains the natural snowfall has been disastrous, very lousy with no moisture around.”
The conditions are set to be more severe elsewhere in the country. Heavy showers with hail and even snow have been forecast for parts of Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia.
It will be a much different story in the Hunter. According to the Bureau of Meteorology the cold front is preceded by a cloud band. This means any rain is expected to cross New South Wales by Friday evening, ready for a clear weekend.
Coastal areas such as Newcastle and Nelson Bay could see some light rain again on Monday.
“It will be mostly dry conditions for the region for the foreseeable future,” he said.
“Chilly conditions, good cuddle up weather.”
