For Elise Kerr competing at the 2017 NSW All Schools State Cross Country Championships on Friday was an experience 12 months in the making.

A goal the King Street Public School Year 5 student set for herself after tripping over at the starting line, getting trampled on, and finishing well off the pace, at last years regional competition. After suffering this disappointment the determined young lady enlisted the help of a former elite athlete, her mum – Hilary Kennedy - to turn things around. Kennedy is also an accredited Level 2 Athletics Australia coach. Along the way they have recently established the Singleton Striders to help other aspiring youngsters who wish to improve their representative prospects, or achieve other individual goals.
Kerr says the 2km course at Eastern Creek was “tough” due to some rough surfaces and the windy conditions. However, she is “proud” of her efforts.
“I want to get to the nationals,” she proclaims.
