Bubbling test tubes, bowls of coloured dye, insect displays and electronic workshops were just a few of the activities on offer as a part of National Science Week.
Year 8 and 9 students were in charge of running the stalls for the primary school students, which St. Catherine’s teacher Joanna Towers described as a fantastic opportunity for the whole school.
“There has been a lot of preparation for Science Week and the senior students have been absolutely fantastic in organising their workshops,” Ms Towers said.
“The seniors are very knowledgeable and have really got the younger students involved.”
For St. Catherine’s Catholic College, Science Week is all about creating an awareness of science for the students and fostering their natural tendency for curiosity.
Earlier this week, Year 4 students were also able to see a presentation given by Hunter Valley Amateur Beekeeping Association members.
As ‘Future Earth’ is this year’s National Science Week theme, the students learnt about the importance of bees for our current and future ecosystems.
With a display of working bees, the presentation certainly had the students buzzing with excitement.
Science Week activities will be continuing for the rest of the week.
