The 14-year-old recently walked away from The Federation of Brasilian Jiu Jitsu NSW State Titles, at the Dee Why PCYC, with the under-54kg crown after winning three bouts in impressive fashion.
But, the result didn’t shock the man who knows her best.
“I was not really surprised,” the former professional said.
“She’s very talented – and a weapon.
“Kanisha has been pulling her rivals, both boys and men, apart for a little while now.
“Although this was her first shot at a state title, she’s had about 15-20 fights (and six competitions) in the lead-up.”
The Singleton High School student, who plies her trade at Hunter Muay Thai and MMA, has a big career ahead of her if she chooses that path, according to Long.
“She also trains at Soul Fighter, in Newcastle, once a week,” he said.
“And, everyone is amazed by her skills.
“Even though she can’t contest MMA (mixed martial arts) until she’s 18, I’m training her to fight at a higher level.
“That’s in the future and, of course, it’ll be up to her to decide if that’s what she wants to do.
“I’m very proud of her – she’s got a lot of heart.”
The next assignment for the youngster is the BJJF Winter Cup at the University of Sydney on Sunday, August 27.
“She’s chasing gold – and a good chance of achieving that,” he admitted.
