Selling a range of creative products as a part of the school’s annual commerce day, year 9 pupils were required to design, produce, market and sell their business ideas to show their commercial skills.
Each group of students was given a modest budget of $50 to create a business concept and see it through.
Commerce teacher, Catherine McBurney said the day was about learning more than just how to run a business.
“This project gives students innumerable life skills, from finance and comparative shopping to management and teamwork,” Cartherine said.
From sweet treats to jars of slime, the range of products produced by those studying commerce proved popular among other students who were eager to spend a dollar or two at each stall.
The funds raised from each business stall will go towards supporting Singleton’s local St. Vincent de Paul, which representatives, Albert Standing and Colin Fogarty say is greatly appreciated by the charity.
“This is the second year the school has supported St. Vinnies in Singleton, and we are always so appreciative of their efforts,” Mr Fogarty said.
In 2016, the school raised $670 for the charity and students are hoping to top last year’s efforts.
“By giving the profits to charity, the whole project is made more meaningful,” Catherine said.
“Students are able to present the cheque to Colin at St. Vinnies and see just how the money will be spent.”
St. Catherine’s Catholic College would like to give special thanks to Singleton Heights Foodworks for their generosity and support of this year’s commerce day.
