The local library, located inside Le’s Bakery, allows the community to borrow a book, swap a book or donate a book.
The fundamental idea behind the Street Library is to ensure that all children have access to literature they can enjoy.
Branxton preschool children were able to be involved in the estavblishment process, and assisted in painting the library.
The excitement and anticipation of the Street Library was evident as it is the first of its kind in the Hunter Valley.
Director of Branxton Preschool, Natalie Caslick said the library is an asset for the entire community.
“This is for our entire community to use,” she said.
“It is there to enhance access to reading materials for young children. Everyone is encouraged to pop in, pick up a book and share a story with their little ones.”
“Children should be read to optimally three stories a day in order to promote early literacy.”
Branxton Preschool is very appreciative of both the Branxton Greta Business Chamber and Cessnock City Council for their support of getting this program up and running.
