Nearly 90 quilters were on display varying in size, design and texture along with some quirky quilts including one used to cover a car. The car of course was parked outside to encourage visitors to the Mechanics Institute.
For Betty Thompson her pride and joy was her quilt that took seven years to complete. Titled ‘Betty’s gift from Heaven’ the quilt was finished with the assistance of Janet Fenwick who completed the border and quilting.
“Janet was marvelous she was my first teacher and helped me complete this quilt as I now have limited vision,” Betty said.
“I gave the quilt to my daughter-in-law Danna Hudson and she took off the spare bed for the exhibition. I like to say it was made by hands of love.”
Betty is an enthusiast of applique on quilts and that was certainly used to great effect by her on her quilt to the represent the various flowers.
