Twenty-one-year-old Katie is currently studying a Bachelor of Teaching (Mathematics) at the University of Newcastle with the ultimate aim of teaching in rural schools and improving mathematics education in rural areas.  A former Singleton High School student Katie is an active member of the Branxton-Greta CWA and has volunteered at the Singleton Show. Her reasons for entering the showgirl competition include being able to promote the Singleton community. “It will help me develop new skills including tackling public speaking and leadership challenges,” she said. “I hope to make lifelong friends and connections through the showgirl competition process.”

Megan is a trainee dump truck operator with Programmed, who has volunteered at various events in the Singleton district, including Relay for Life and Clean up Australia Day. The 22-year-old enjoyed growing up on a farm and would like, in the future, for her children to do the same. Farm life played an important part in her development and Megan is keen to share those experiences with others. “I want to be strong voice and a great leader for female youth, showing them it is still okay these days if you love camping or farming and four wheel driving which are typically portrayed as a males interest,” she said.

Chloe is a Environmental Community Response Officer. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and is currently studying a Graduate Masters of Environmental Management and Sustainability. She moved to Singleton nine months ago from the Central Coast. One of her main ambitions is to work alongside farmers to ensure that the region’s agricultural potential is maximised. “Mine rehabilitation is a huge aspect of environmental science and I would like this to be my area of specialty, combining my knowledge of agricultural and environmental industries,” she said. “I think it is extremely important to encourage young women to get involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) fields of work.”

Twenty-one- year-old Abbie Caelli is employed by Programmed Skilled Workforce as a business support administrator having completed her Certificate III in Business Administration. She is a member of the Singleton Cancer Appeal Committee. Longterm Abbie would love to operate her own cafe and entered the competition to become more involved in her local community.
