This year marked the 149th time the show has been held and no doubt the Northern Agricultural Association (NAA), who run the event, are planning something special for 2018 to mark the 150th anniversary.
But in the meantime hats off to the NAA Committee, volunteers, exhibitors and everyone involved for a fabulous 2017 show.
And if feet through the turnstiles are any recognition of success then record gate takings on Saturday confirmed the public loves it’s local show.
It was also a pretty big night on Friday, with volunteers in the bar run-off their feet keeping up with the orders from a thirsty crowd, enjoying the bull ride and the musical entertainment that followed later in the evening.
The weather was helpful, if a little hot on the Saturday afternoon, but the main reason for the enduring success of this event is the people who run and the people who support the show.
Without an extraordinary amount of volunteer hours the show simply would not happen.
Nor would the showground be the beautiful place it is today – used by various groups on a regular basis for any number of events throughout the year.
Singleton Showground is one of the best in the best in the country thanks to its size and heritage buildings, many saved and restored, by NAA members.
We were reminded of this fact by the NAA’s newest honorary life members Frank Ingold and Eric Worth who spoke about restoring the wonderful grand stand at night after they finished work.
How about standing at a turnstile at the showground all day chatting away to the public and selling entry tickets.
It is that sort of dedication that has made the grounds and the show the success it is today.
Nothing epitomes what teamwork can achieve than the show.
Tempers may fray under pressure and opinions may vary on what works best but at showtime everyone pulled together and it went off a treat.
So congratulations to all involved and a big thankyou for all your dedication and professionalism.
We look forward to the 2018 show and its special birthday celebrations.
