Originally a brass band, it now incorporates woodwind instruments – and its members boast varying ages from as young as 10 to 80-plus.
But, one aspect that’s remained constant over the past three decades is the organisation’s annual Bands In Concert, which will take place at the Civic Centre on Saturday, November 4.
In addition to the Singleton Town Band, the performance also features musicians from St Catherine’s Catholic College, Singleton Public School, King Street Public School and Singleton Heights Primary School, the Singleton High School concert band and the Singleton Public School Vivid Vocal Performance Group, as well as the local community.
“We’re looking forward to the upcoming event,” life member, and bandmaster for two decades, David Walker said.
“In 1987, we put on a show to thank the community for helping upgrade our hall in Bowman Street.
“Then someone suggested we perform a paid concert at the newly-completed Civic Centre.
“We decided to play a two 40-minute program.
“Now, 30 years down the track, we’re still performing at the same venue.
“In fact, we are one of the longest serving [continuous] bands since 1878.
“And, next year marks our 140th anniversary.
“That milestone will be a great reason to celebrate.”
Tickets – adults $12; concession/children 5-16 years $9; family of four (2 adults, 2 children) $30; children under 5 years, free – are available at the door from 6pm, with the concert starting at 6.30pm.
