In a unique partnership between Ravensworth and the pre-school, the youngsters are growing native seeds for use in the mine’s rehabilitation and offset planting work.
Ravensworth set up a nursery at the pre-school in 2015, enabling the children to grow up to 1000 seedlings each year. When the seedlings reach 10cm, Ravensworth purchases them for $1 each, providing an income stream for the school but also teaching the children about our environment and sustainability.
This week’s planting exercise was organised by Ravensworth’s Environment & Community officer Brenton Hubert.
The children planted a selection of eucalypt seedlings this week on an area of Hillcrest that is being returned to native bushland after past grazing practices.
