Community members gathered at Burdekin park on Saturday, November 11 to commemorate the lives of Hunter servicemen and women who fought for our freedom in the First World War.

On the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, those present at the service paused and silently reflected upon the loss and sacrifice made by our soldiers.

During this year’s Remembrance Day commemorations, which marks the 99th anniversary, group members from the Red Cross, Singleton Scouts, local schools and more, laid wreaths to pay their respects.

The service was held once again at Burdekin Park, marking the second year the service has returned to its original location.

In previous years, the commemorations have been relocated to the Civic Green due to an influx of flying foxes.
