Singleton builders and their trade mates gathered at Singleton Showground for a building industry charity Christmas party earlier this month. The wonderful event, organised by Link Upward Building Pty Ltd, raised $9,000 for Movember and ‘Check Your Tackle’.

Movember aims to raise awareness and funds for testicular cancer, prostate cancer, mental health and suicide prevention among men. While ‘Check Your Tackle’ focuses on penile and other men’s cancers.
Over 100 people attended the local event and showed their support for the chosen causes. And, if supporting a charity wasn’t enough, there was a fantastic prize pool worth $12,000 made available by the generosity of a number of local businesses and community members.
Some of the prizes on offer included 50 bales of high quality horse hay donated by Crawfords Freightlines, $2000 worth of Milwaukee tools donated by Reece Plumbing Singleton, $500 worth of solar and power packs donated by Farmers Warehouse Singleton, $500 worth of tools donated by Mikes auto parts, $1200 worth of tools donated by Link Upward Building, $600 worth of goods, donated by D&L Chainsaws and quality hand made stock whips donated by Kerry Maskey.
There was also plenty of games on the night, with nail jars, toolbag weights, steeline colour familiarisation, auctions, coin tosses, lucky door prizes and major raffles keeping the crowds entertained. Over the past three years the event has raised a total of $22,000 for various charities, a mammoth effort by the local industry professionals, businesses and community members involved.
After such success, Link Upward Building Pty intend on making the night an annual event to be held every November. The local business is encouraging other people in the building industry to get involved, and sign up for the invite list to next year’s event. Link and Jamie Upward, of Link Upward Building Pty, would like to thank all of the local business who generously donated prize and cash contributions to this year’s event.
“This event provides an opportunity for people in our trade to connect and reflect on the year, and to raise money,” the pair said.
“It is also a time to celebrate local businesses whose support makes the success of such events possible.”
With the festive season fast approaching, Link and Jamie are encouraging the public to keep in mind the families affected by cancer.
“We encourage the public to keep in mind families who have been affected by this horrible thing called cancer, and to encourage openness among men,” they said
“And, we would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe Christmas.”
