The community has recently raised some concerns about the adequacy of this facility.
At present Singleton Council only has a small animal holding facility which is not designed to hold animals long term passed their impound date.
This is why they work so closely with rescue groups and shelters throughout New South Wales to rehome lost and surrendered animals.
And, investigating opportunities and options to improve/redevelop the facility was identified in the recently adopted 2016/2017 Operational Plan.
Her notice of motion states: “That Council receive a report to the November Council Meeting (as per the Operational Plan 2016/17) detailing options for the Council Animal Shelter upgrade or its replacement with the intention being for Council to progress at that time.”
The report is to include:
upgrade existing facility and replacement options;
location options for a new facility ie. existing area or elsewhere;
design options sufficient to achieve costing for both an upgrade and new facility;
and, funding options for an upgrade or new facility this is to include loans, Voluntary Planning Agreements and grants.
Earlier this year, Singleton Council, in partnership with Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Shire Council, called for EOIs from experienced and suitably qualified parties to provide companion animal impoundment facilities.
