Twenty-nine youngsters from the club have qualified to compete at the regionals.
They did this in style at the zone championships with three recording-breaking individual performances - and one in a relay event.
The senior boys relay team, consisting of Ethan McLoughlin, Riley Woods, George Davis and Joshua Brown, recorded at time of 50.22s in the 4x100m event.
McLoughlin also set an individual record in the U13 boys 200m, crossing the finishing line in 25.22 seconds.
In the U12 girls high jump, Alix O’Bryan pulled off a record-breaking leap of 1.41 metres.
Then in the U11 boys javelin, a throw of 14.41 metres secured Thomas Cox a zone record.
The zone championships were held in Kurri Kurri in December and the regionals were originally meant to be held last weekend but due to the extreme heat the event was postponed.
Unfortunately, this means it now clashes with a junior representative touch football carnival.
Championship officer, Dorothy Smuts, says, this has left some athletes with a dilemma.
“Some of them are meant to be playing rep touch,” she says.
Although she is working on convincing all the 29 athletes to compete.
And, is confident they will once again have some progress through to the state championships.
Last year the talented McLoughlin came home with 5 gold medals.
