The field day, hosted by Singleton Beef and Land in collaboration with NSW Hunter Local Land Services, highlighted emerging technologies in agriculture and featured a ‘Women in Agriculture’ panel session.
President of Singleton Beef and Land management, Neil Nelson said the field day focussed on showing beef producers and those within the agricultural industry how innovative technologies and programs can be of use to them.
“Our speakers discussed how producers can turn their ideas into innovation,” Neil said.
“Field Day exhibitors featured their own innovative products and programs, and demonstrations occurred throughout the day.”
Particularly popular was the Maitland based exhibitor, Sky Land Management, who demonstrated how their drone technologies can be utilised in seed spreading and weed spraying.
Organic Growth Medium (OGM), who distributes to local store Kirkwood Produce, was also on display at the event.
OGM is a Sydney based company which specialises in recycled fertilisers used in farming and mining rehabilitation. Michael Bonanno of OGM said innovation is vital in not only creating but operating and distributing their products too.
Bonanno said innovation is also depended on consumers and their ability to branch out and try something new.
But the innovation didn’t stop there. Three separate companies working together on the day displayed how they are helping to improve safety standards and safe cattle handling.
Top Shelf Angus, a Singleton based company, offers an opportunity for producers to fast track their genetics by using hormone and embryo programs, while Tamworth based company, Virbac aims at providing top quality animal health products to ensure the best delivery is possible.
And to oversee it all Red River, also based in Tamworth, provides the G force yard. The G force is a circular yard which has improved safety standards including anti-backing gates.
The Innovations and Innovators field day was no doubt a success.
