Round three of the Black Diamond AFL competition is going to be an emotional encounter for the Singleton Roosters as they remember one of their young guns who tragically lost his life two years ago.

This Saturday they are set to contest the Bryan Childs Shield against Maitland at the chook pen.
Publicity officer, Richard Wilkes, says the shield means everything to the Roosters and the boys will be out to defend it.
“They will give it their all to keep the shield in Roosters territory,” he says.
Bryan’s family has provided these words to the club ahead of the clash.
...Bryan was a true Rooster. He played around 70 junior games and about 20 senior matches.
One of this proudest moments was playing the under 17’s Grand Final with his teammates. He played at centre half back and had four opponents on that day.
He shut them all down. He was really proud of that win. He always played hard but always played fair. He took all the big hits and was never on the ground for more than two or three seconds. Then on the job.
He was bright, clever and caring and never spoke badly of anyone. We, his family are proud and privileged to have known you for your much too short life. Walk with us, until we meet again.

Richard’s game previews:
- Black Diamond Plate: This is the grand final rematch between Singleton and Maitland. Much like last year, the Roosters see Maitland as their main competitors this season. Both sides have had a good start to the season winning both opening games. During the off season Maitland has recruited some high level players. Although they have yet to present their best team on the park, it’s expected they will turn up full strength on Saturday. The Roosters have had some handy pickups also and the new guys are firing. The side has been focused on this match with all efforts emphasised on winning this game.
- Reserves: The Roosters are knocking at the door for a win after a much improved game against Gosford last week. The team is becoming more settled. They have players locked in key positions and are beginning to gel nicely. With the sentimental value of Saturday’s game the boys will lift and will prove hard to beat.
- Women’s: The Roosterette’s are continuing to improve. It’s only their second season in the comp and they have been highly competitive. Saturday’s game will be a tough task for the Roosterette’s. Maitland has had a big win against Muswellbrook in the opening round and they only went down to Warners Bay last week in a close one. Although the Roosterette’s haven’t quite got there for a win in the opening 2 games, you get the sense a win is imminent.
