A determined Phoebe Desmond says bring on next year

Talented Rugby League forward, Phoebe Desmond, says the country versus city origin was “a hell of an experience”.  Although the stop start nature of the clash did not favour Country’s relatively small but speedy side, they gave it their all. “We were unlucky on the score board but we did all we could – bring on next year,” she says. Desmond explains that unlike their regular fixtures where the 80 minute game is played in two halves, the match was split into quarters. She says this ended up disadvantaging the “little side” as they had the speed and fitness to go the distance. “By the time the 20 minutes came around we where on a roll but then we had to stop,” she explains. A lack of continuity has punctuated this fierce competitors career. As from her junior days till now it has always been a challenge just to play in a regular competition. From the now defunct Maitland Pickers and Hunter Stars to her new home with North Newcastle, Desmond says it feels like every season she has to travel further.

TOUGH LOSS: The final score was City 20 - Country 8.
