Ex-student and professional female cricket player, Maisy Gibson visits Singleton's Australian Christian College

Our very own professional female cricket player, Maisy Gibson, paid a visit to her former school today.

Maisy, and her NSW Breakers team mate, Belinda Vakarewa, spent the day at the Australian Christian College where they spoke to the eager students about leadership and teamwork.

The pair also spread the word about how becoming full-time paid players thanks to sponsors Lendlease makes life easier – they can now focus on their cricket.

Both girls played in this year’s second exciting Women’s Big Bash League (WWBL) after their successful domestic season with the Breakers.

The side had a convincing nine-wicket win over Queenland in the final of the Women's National Cricket League – it was their 18th title in 21 years.

Pace bowler, Vakarewa then went on tour Sri Lanka with the Shooing Stars and has just been selected n the Australian Women's World Cup Squad.

After a six week break, leg spinner Gibson is about to start pre-season training with the Breakers and says she is looking to cement her position in the side.

This will be her second season playing in the first fully professional female team in Australian domestic sport and she knows “it will be a challenge” as their are plenty of younger players coming through pushing for a spot.

Between signing autographs the pair also played some cricket with the students, including Maisy’s younger brother, Charlie.

“He actually got me out,” Maisy joked.
