In April this year the park’s popular play equipment was also removed for safety reasons.
General Manager Jason Linnane said Singleton Council’s regular open space safety inspections were integral to ensuring community safety was upheld when using public spaces.
“The safety of our community is paramount and unfortunately the recent safety inspections found the barbecues were aged, broken, unrepairable and posed a safety risk,” he said.
“Although the removal of the facilities is far from ideal, we will not compromise the safety of our park users.

“We are currently working with consultants on the development of the Townhead Park Master Plan which will guide the future uses for the park and take into consideration the replacement of the barbecue facilities and playground equipment.
“We anticipate the Master Plan will be on public exhibition by the end of 2017, at which time we will encourage our community to give feedback on the plans to help develop a wonderful community space at the gateway to Singleton.”
A cafe has recently opened in the Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre.
