People travelled from interstate and age was no barrier with a few attendees being nonagenarians.
The day was a great success with 108 former employees attending, said Rae Davies. “We had a beautiful buffet lunch at the Diggers Club in York Street,” she said. “A lot of people bought old photos and memorabilia which was really popular. “We plan on holding another reunion in 5 years as its 30 years since the last one and we don't plan on waiting that long again.”
The former Singleton store was the community’s one-stop shop for everything you could possibly need, from furniture and apparel to fresh produce. The store first opened its doors on March 18, 1909 and was one of the first major stores to open in Singleton.
In a time before the town had Woolworths or Coles, the Co-Op was a place to not only shop but to see friends and mingle too. During its 84 year operation period, the store underwent a series of redevelopments before closing its doors for the final time in 1993.
