Headlining the fight night, his bout was advertised as the main event and rightly so as the promising young pugilist went into the encounter with a 5–0 record.
Under pressure early, Duffie received two standing eight counts before gathering himself and finishing strongly over his opponent.
The points decision over his Blue Mountains-based opponent, Cam Carroll, lived up to the expectation and was indeed the best fight of the night.
Living up to the claim his coach, Geoff Nichols, made a few weeks ago.
After his protege notched up a win at Wauchope back in September, Nichols told The Argus Duffie “will not be beaten this year”.
He also predicted there is state title on the horizon for the talented youngster.
Describing him as the “complete package”.
Although a number of Duffie’s teammates also turned it on at the PCYC Cessnock Fight Night.
The three other local lads from the Singleton PCYC Wambo Mining Boxing team also stepped into the ring.
Debutant, Jayden Offner, took part in an exhibition bout.
PCYC manager, Dave Andrews, says it was Offner’s first ever fight as a junior novice.
“They don’t announce a winner for an exhibition bout but he acquitted himself very well,” he says.
While the up-and-coming 16-year-old southpaw, Cameron King, faced an older counterpart in his bout.
He was matched up against a 19-year-old Central Coast boxer Bailey Lester.
“Unfortunately, any advantage he may have had from being a southpaw seemed to be nullified by the opponents longer reach, and the more experienced boxer won out in a points decision,” says Andrews.
However Karim Maatalla in his first fight representing the Singleton PCYC was dominate.
Despite being up against the more experienced Daniel Sterling.
In just his second competitive fight, Maatalla overwhelmed his well credentialed opponent early.
Andrews says the referee stopped the contest late in the first round.
