She used a mayoral minute at t this week’s ordinary meeting to make the announcement.
The Mayoral Christmas Tree Appeal has become an annual tradition and an important opportunity for the community to band together to support those less fortunate at Christmas time.
Cr Moore said residents and local businesses can help make Christmas merry for everyone across the local government area by donating unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items under trees at:
- Council’s Customer Service Centre;
- Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre;
- Colleen Gale Children’s Centre;
- Singleton Out of School Hours Care (OOSH); and
- Singleton Library.
Donations will be accepted from Monday, November 27 until Friday, December 15 and distributed to local support groups and charities to assist them in providing support to local families.
“Christmas is a special time of year to celebrate with all the people we love and indulge in food and gifts,” Cr Moore said.
“But unfortunately the festive season can be a tough time for some of those among us. “The Mayoral Christmas Appeal has become a tradition for Council and the community to join together to make sure everyone in our local government area has a joyous holiday season, and has been well supported in previous years.
“I encourage residents and businesses to be generous – every gesture of goodwill, large or small, adds a little cheer to what may be a difficult time for some people in our community.”
Christmas On John Street will be held on Friday, November 24 from 5pm, with the official opening at 6pm. Fireworks presented by YanCoal will take place at 8.30pm.
