This is where Singleton’s 2017 Young Achiever of the Year, Fiona Stalker, officially received the Order of Australia John Lincoln Community Service Award.
In the afternoon, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales, and Mrs Hurley hosted an awards ceremony.
The Governor General is a Patron of the Order of Australia Association New South Wales Branch.
Fiona is one of only 26 students in the state to be recognised in 2017.
Among her notable achievements is Fiona’s mammoth effort to raise over $8000 for the School of St Jude in Tanzania.
She then travelled over there and spent three weeks helping the students and community.
This included preparing and teaching lessons at the school, coaching athletics and delivering the only carnival in Tanzania for the primary school region, trekking to the roof of Mt Kilimanjaro, and living with the Maasai tribe in the region.
Her nomination for this award was encouraged and supported by Hunter Valley Grammar School Head of Barrintgon House, Micheal Knox.
Fiona recently completed her Year 12 studies at the school.
