Singleton Uniting Church was filled to overflowing for the funeral service of lifelong Singleton resident Perry Shaddock, who passed away at Singleton Hospital on November 6, at 86 years of age. He was the eldest of two boys born to Norman and Alice Shaddock.

Perry’s earliest schooling was at South Singleton Infants followed by Hunter Street Primary before completing his education at Singleton High School. In his third year at High School Perry was appointed school captain in what was then known as the Intermediate Certificate year. A two year extension to education enabled students to advance to what was then known as the Leaving Certificate. Perry achieved this level and, in the process, remained school captain for three years. On leaving school Perry commenced working for his father, Norman, who had purchased a real estate business in 1946. In 1955 Perry married, June Shearer. Early this year they achieved their 62nd anniversary.
On Norman Shaddock’s retirement Perry took over the business. His mantra for real estate dealings was not governed by a compulsion to sell, but by bringing together a seller and a potential buyer and achieving a happy result for both. In his younger years Perry was actively involved in the Singleton Apex Club and later an esteemed member of the Rotary on Hunter. He was an inaugural director and board member of the Business and Enterprise Centre from 1990 to 1995. This was set up by the Mayors of Singleton, Muswellbrook and Scone to encourage new business to the region.
Perry Shaddock led a life that was full and honest, a life of community and sharing and a life that touched many people. He is survived by his wife June, children Dale, Andrew, Fiona, Linda and their families. Ron Stokes
