Besides all the action on the track and in the field, it was time to say goodbye to a much loved coach and thank an ongoing sponsor at the final Little Athletics meeting for the year.
After three-and-a-half seasons, the Singleton Track&Field Club reluctantly farewelled popular Tiny Tots coach, Rowan Wood.
During this time the dedicated volunteer has been responsible for formulating and delivering the program on Tuesday afternoons to the club’s youngest members.
His assistant, Sophia Lawrence, says he is very patient with the kids.
While secretary, Kiera Lawrence, says the committee would like to thank Rowan for all his efforts over the years.
“All the kids love him,” she says.
“I would always see six or seven kids jumping all over him at the end of the session.”
The club also acknowledged mining company, Glencore, for their latest contribution – two brand new shade structures.
They were purchased in the off-season thanks to Glencore’s junior sport grants program and had their first official use at the recent zone championships.
Glencore’s media and community relations coordinator, Michelle Hunter, was on hand to inspect the new acquisitions and hand out some hats to the enthusiastic youngsters.
