This year the Australian Stock Horse Society (ASH) has named 2017’s volunteer of the year and it’s none other than Singleton’s own Bruce Moxey.

Bruce has been involved with the society for many, many years having established Rainwood Park stud with his wife Thea in 1978 and has always been a loyal, passionate member willing to help out wherever needed.
From promoting the Australian Stock Horses to organising events there is no doubting Bruce’s dedication to the Society and the breed.
To receive the award you first have to be nominated then things are left up to the board to decide. Bruce was nominated by the NSW State Management Council in appreciation of his years of volunteer work including being chairman of the national show committee for four years and he was also NSW president for three years.
The award is given in recognition of those who put time and effort into the society and the winner is rewarded with a certificate and a twelve month subscription to the Australian Stock Horse’s journal.
In a sign of the couple’s true dedication to the ASHS Thea has won the same award, back in 2011 for all her work as a steward and her fabulous cooking skills.
Thea was nominated by the Eastern Branch of the ASHS – of which she been a member for 30 years. Each year before the start of the national show and sale Thea can be found hard at work in her kitchen cooking up a storm to provide the sale committee with treats for their morning and afternoon teas for the eight day event.
It’s safe to say the couple is very happy and proud to receive this great honor.
It doesn’t take long talking to the Moxey’s to tell that they care deeply for their work and that they love what they do.
Bruce and Thea help to plan many of the events held by the Australian Stock Horse Society and also participate by showing their horses or loaning them to others keen to take them into competitions.
One of Bruce’s highlights on horseback was his participation on the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
“It was a life changing experience to be part of the 120 riders bearing the Australian flag – I even appeared on the big screen beside Julie Anthony when sing was singing the anthem,” he said.
