Just before Christmas, the Cancer Council received an early present – a  donation of $23,000 from the generous workforce at Glencore’s Ravensworth operation. Every year they raise money for a chosen charity and it all happens on site. Throughout 2017 they host various activities, such as barbecues and morning teas, that combined with the profits from their vending machine always tally up to a substantial donation. In previous years they have made donations of up to $20 000 to the Singleton Cancer Appeal which has been used to update the expensive diagnostic, and surgical equipment, the committee purchases on an ongoing basis for our local hospital. In fact, over the last five years it estimated $80 000 has been contributed to the local charity.
