Since the launch of the state-of-the-art 340m go-kart circuit three months ago, more than 2600 licences have been issued to motor enthusiasts, both local and visiting.
And, owner Ged Elphinstone admits he’s overwhelmed by the community’s reaction to the Lake Liddell Sports and Recreation Park attraction, which is located between Muswellbrook and Singleton.
“We opened back in September – and we’ve received fantastic support from everyone,” he said.
“Not only residents from the Upper Hunter, but also people from Sydney and Newcastle.
“It’s allowed us to employ a staff of 10.
“We’ve catered for a lot of families, too.
“I think they’re a bit shocked by the multiple activities [available here] on one day.
“At this stage, we still have the indoor sky-diving, rock climbing and laser tag, as well as the camping grounds.
“We were inundated by corporate groups before Christmas.
“The business sector, in particular mining companies, has really got behind us.
“All up, it’s been very positive.”
One aspect, which delights Mr Elphinstone, is the high number of “return clientele”.
“Some people have come back 10 or 12 times,” he said.
“I estimate we’ve catered for in excess of 6500 [rides].
“We’ve even set up a leaderboard now.
“It promotes a bit of friendly competition among the drivers.
“So far, 27.002 seconds is the fastest lap time.”
The Elphinstones’ $250,000 investment doesn’t appear to end there, either.
“We have 17 karts – including juniors and twins – running, seven days a week, with an undercover barbecue area nearby.
“However, Julie [Elphinstone] and I are looking to purchase another fleet in the near future.
“We’re also hoping to extend the track to attract faster karts.
“That’s on top of a proposed paintball area,” Mr Elphinstone said.
