The laid back adventurers have not been put off by broken bones, a near choking and subsequent emergency surgery, or the logistics of organising such an ambitious fundraising effort. To the contrary, these thrill seekers seem to thrive on figuring out a way of ensuring some thirty plus riders conquer some of the country’s most treacherous outback tracks. And, this year will be no exception. They are packing up their gear heading out to Uluru and then, riding all the way back. The duo behind the previous bashes, Craig “Skillo” Skillen and Kieran “Nitro” Nugent along with Dan Kramer are not daunted by the destination or the distance. Skillo says the riders will fly to the red centre and the support crew will drive the bikes and the rest of the gear out there. “The actual distance is pretty much the same as the previous round trips we have made,” adds Nitro. Dan has been busy organising much needed sponsorship as this time around they are raising funds for both Cystic Fibrosis and MS Australia. “Even if we only raise $30 000 this time, it will bring the total amount money we have raised from three rides up to $100 000,” explains Skillo. Not bad for blokes that who say they are “just having fun”. The guys are currently raffling off a ready-to-race postie bike at the Caledonian Hotel. The estimated value of the prize is $6000 as it includes air-fares and entry fee. It will be drawn on Australia Day after a big afternoon at the Hotel. So get to the Cali for a barbecue lunch, live band, and to get your tickets.
