This modern, sealed, and bright new look will ensure the dangerous pilling occurring on the top six courts is a thing of the past. It will also allow the association to host a Fast 5 competition this year as six courts have been appropriately marked for this exciting form of the game.
President, Kerri Koosman, estimates the total cost of the project is expected to come in at over $150 000 but an unexpected call from member for the Upper Hunter Michael Johnson pledging funding made all the difference. “We had started doing some fundraising to repair the surfaces as we could no longer play senior games on those six courts but then I received a phone call from Mr Johnsen,” she says.
“He told me he had secured some funding for us but not how much. However, when I was contacted about transferring the funds I found out it was $100 000.”
She says after this the Singleton Council offered cover the shortfall.
“Council has been very supportive over the last few years and committed to improving our facilities.”
With the courts resurfaced, the Singleton Netball Association will be looking forward to their next event – the State Championship try outs, to be held at Rose Point Park on February 6.
